Did you know?
Aspalathus sericea, elegant and wandlike with its flowerhead on a single silvery stem, is growing in profusion on the Klipspringer sandy slopes in the second year after the big burn of 2008.
The common name for Aspalathus is Cape gorse. There are 278 species in South Africa, mainly in the Cape, 49 of which occur in the Stellenbosch to Hermanus mountains. The brilliant yellow pea flowers of A.excelsa, A.callosa and A. aspalathoides are particularly beautiful on the Hermanus mountains in Spring.
