Did you know?

Aspalathus sericea, elegant and wandlike with its flowerhead on a single silvery stem, is growing in profusion on the Klipspringer sandy slopes in the second year after the big burn of 2008. The common name for Aspalathus is Cape gorse. There are 278 species in South Africa, mainly in the Cape, 49 of which occur in the Stellenbosch to Hermanus mountains. The brilliant yellow pea flowers of A.excelsa, A.callosa and A. aspalathoides are particularly beautiful on the Hermanus mountains in Spring.

HERMANUS FLOWER AND ECO FAIR 2009: Rain on the first day did not dampen visitors' enthusiasm for the spectacular flower display and other attractions at the Hermanus Flower and Eco Fair mid-September 2009. The Kirstenbosch-South Africa's Chelsea team members, David Davidson and Riaan Maritz, who designed and executed the display, are sincerely thanked by the Hermanus Botanical Society, hosts of the Fair. More than R60 000 will go towards environmental projects and conservation.
